it’s a long winding road.
down the stairs through the opening of a cave where darkness falls,
stretching below jagged pillar and above rugged rocks,
you start to realise that you are treading into water,
splashing about and seeping into your boot, in no time it turns shoulder deep –
all you have is a rubber life ring, a helmet with headlamp, and each other.
then you snap off the light and you lie on your back,
you’d see bits of light dotting the roof of the cave.
they grow in number and they twinkle brighter
you realise these glowworms have been here all along –
accompanying your walk in the dark, winking at you.
